FIELD EXPERIENCE

November-December 2011. Bach Dang River Survey, Vietnam. Randall Sasaki and Jun Kimura, Supervisors.

  • Position: Field Technician
  • Duties: Conducted a gradiometer survey to locate ships from the Battle of Bach Dang. Performed coring to determine the course of the defunct Bach Dang River.

July-August 2010. Bajo de la Campagna Underwater Excavation, Spain. Mark Polzer, Supervisor.

  • Position: Field technician
  • Duties: Excavation and recording of a 5th century BC Phoenician shipwreck.  Responsible for mapping the site using Photo Modeler.

May-June 2010.  University of Hawaii Field School at Tell Timai, Egypt. Dr. Robert Littman and Jay Silverstein, Supervisors.

  • Position: Site supervisor and field technician
  • Duties: Excavation of the suspected harbor basin and nearby facilities.

May-June 2010.  Coring work at the suspected harbor of Thmuis in the Nile Delta, Egypt.

  • Position: Primary Investigator and Project Leader
  • Duties: Shallow coring of the suspected harbor basin and the surrounding region to locate ancient canals and tributaries of the Nile River.

July-August 2009. University of Hawaii Field School at Tell Timai, Egypt. Dr Robert Littman and Jay Silverstein, Supervisors.

  • Position: Site supervisor and field technician
  • Duties: Excavation of a waterfront temple and workshop quarter.   Supervised and assisted in the shallow coring of an ancient water basin.

May-June 2009. Deep sea survey with the Danaos Project, Crete. Shelley Wachsmann, Supervisor.

  • Position: Field technician
  • Duties: Assisted in the survey of the Kassian Strait using Deep Tow sonar and ROV equipment to locate ancient shipwrecks and trade routes.

December-May 2009.  Conservation work at Texas A&M University.

  • Position: Lab technician
  • Duties: Conserved artifacts from terrestrial and submerged sites. Worked extensively with waterlogged materials.

July-August 2007. Underwater work with the Hellenic Institute of Marine Archaeology (IENAE), The Euboea Survey, Greece.  Dr. George Koutsovlakis, Supervisor.

  • Position: Field Technician
  • Duties:  Survey of ancient shipwrecks around the island of Euboea.  Recovery and restoration of artifacts and underwater mapping of shipwrecks.

April-November 2007.  Underwater work with the Hellenic Institute of Ancient Medieval Alexandrian Studies (HIAMAS), Egypt.  Dr. Harry Tzalas, Supervisor.

  • Position: Field Technician
  • Duties: Survey and recovery of artifacts from the submerged Ptolemaic temple of Isis in the eastern harbor of Alexandria off the Cape of Lochias.

June 2006. Terrestrial Field School with the Pennsylvania State University’s Karnak Expedition, Egypt.  Dr. Donald Redford, Supervisor.

  • Position: Student/Field Technician
  • Duties: Excavation and recording of the Akhenaton Temple complex at Karnak Temple, Egypt.  Recovery and rescue operation.  Responsible for drawing artifacts.

June-August 2005. Museum work at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, Egypt. Dr. Janice Cameron, Supervisor.

  • Position: Assistant and Database Organizer
  • Duties: Cataloging and labeling artifacts in the museum for an ongoing database project.

June 2003. Terrestrial Field School with the Pennsylvania State University, Egypt. Dr. Donald Redford, Supervisor.

  • Position: Student/Field Technician
  • Duties: Excavation of a unit in the Mendes temple complex.  Excavation, survey, cataloging artifacts.
